This is why I love CubbyCubes. Picture this lovely scene. There I was, last week, sitting on the airport floor, at security with my opened carry-on bag. All my stuff was spilling out of my suitcase and scattered across the floor. As sweat dribbled down my back, I was frantically putting my contents away. People were looking at me, waiting for me to get my you-know-what together so that the line could finally move.
That day, airport security decided to choose me to go through my bag! “We just randomly picked you,” they said. I shook my head as passers-by got a chance to look at my polka dot underwear.
Yes, it was quite a treat to board a plane again and travel, but I was full of remorse! Why? Because I didn’t have my CubbyCubes!
I gave all of my CubbyCubes to my kids who are at camp! They are probably chanting the phrase “This is why I love my CubbyCubes!” as they admire their beautifully organized cubbies in awe. Can someone say FOMO?
Why do YOU need CubbyCubes
Notice that I capitalized the YOU. Cubby Cubes are typically marketed to people who go to overnight camp. Sandi Rein Silver (@sandi_rein_silver) CEO of @CubbyCubes explains why she created the CubbyCubes clothing organization system.
“It came out of necessity. I saw how my children were living at camp and their cubbies were a mess! There were missing shorts and they had shoeprints on their t-shirts! The clothes were just randomly piled on top of each other and tumbling constantly.”
From my airport extravaganza experience described above, CubbyCubes are clearly very much needed for the adult (and anyone really) who travels.
Why?
Having everything in their place and being organized makes my heart sing!
Did you ever finish packing and then completely forgot if you packed that special sundress? Forget about dumping your packed suitcase upside down to check! All you have to do is select the designated CubbyCube labeled “dresses” and Voila! Is it there, or not?
When you arrive at your destination, you can grab your bathing suit as fast as you can say “Everybody in the pool!” Because you know EXACTLY where they are!
Plus, it just looks so darn nice. Who wants to look at a ball of clothes shoved in a suitcase or shelf? Blech. They look all wrinkly. Plus, the dirty clothes get messed up with the clean clothes. Who needs that?
This is why I love my CubbyCubes. Lucky kids – At least someone in my family has them.
It’s Worth The Effort
Grouping your clothes into designated “cubes” is work. It’s an extra step that requires some sort of effort, but honey, it’s so worth it. As I sat there on the airport floor, while I frantically shoved all of my clothes back into my bag, all I was thinking was how quick this process could have been if I just had my CubbyCubes.
And when we got to our destination, in our friend’s beautiful Whistler home, my husband and I had a closet to share, with cubbies! You can guess what I was whining about.
How To Care For CubbyCubes
Follow Sandi’s simple instructions, and you will love your CubbyCubes, too!
- Use the hand wash setting on your washing machine
- Hang dry only.
- Do not place them in the dryer, as they will lose their shape.
- They will dry quickly, probably in under 2 hours.
How Many CubbyCubes Do You Need?
For trips to the cottage, a road trip, a bike trip, camping, or a 1 week holiday, Sandi recommends starting with 2 small, 2 medium, and 2 large. Everyone has their own personal packing style. You can always add to your collection, if necessary.
For campers going to sleep-away camp, we have a “template” called The Joey Set. It’s a great price point and it includes what kids generally need at camp to organize their clothes. If there are leftovers for that summer, parents can borrow, and use them for their own travel.
If you are going on any type of trip – don’t forget to use CubbyCubes! They will keep you and your clothing organized from the moment you leave your home to your final destination. Polka dot underwear and all.
