I have to say, with all honesty that this hot chocolate recipe is really good! This recipe was a challenge and a journey to create. But I had fun with it. Let me tell you how this all began.
If you have been following me for a while, you might be familiar with this hot chocolate recipe – that was on the healthy side. Healthy it was, delicious it wasn’t. I mean, it was OK.
After that attempt, I went back to my old habits. Yes, I succumbed to the convenience of the instant hot chocolate packet that you find at most grocery stores.
I don’t know. Call me lazy, if you must. It was just easier. Picture the scene. It’s 8:00 PM. My brain has officially turned off and all I want to do is crawl up on the couch and be entertained by a screen. My companion? A cup of rich, creamy, delicious hot chocolate that is poured into my favourite mug. I carefully cradle this treat in my hands as I inhale the chocolate aroma and bring the piping-hot elixir to my lips.
After the first sip, I say “Ahhh… happiness.” As it’s truly how I feel.
My husband also wants to take part in this ritual, so you can imagine how many packets of hot chocolate I go through a week.
This hot chocolate is really good! We would both say. And then, one day, it just hit me. I can do better.

Embracing natural sweeteners. That’s what I am looking for. I want good, quality hot chocolate poured into my cup. The problem is, I don’t think I could buy this at a grocery store. It would be up to me to create it.
And so she did.
The advice was simple. Take some Cocoa, add your favourite milk, and some natural sweetener, such as honey, agave, or maple syrup.
And so I did.
And it wasn’t easy! Marsha didn’t give me any measurements or directions. But has that stopped me before? No siree! I unleashed my creativity, said to myself “I have no clue what I’m doing, but what the heck” and went to work. When it comes to experimenting and learning – I’m a pro!
And It Was Fun!
The feeling of uncertainty created some sort of excitement, as I was in the driver’s seat, exploring unknown territory. Yeah, I know I wasn’t literally exploring torturous waters, but in my world, I was. We all know that I am not a chef. My family certainly knows that. “But mom, you have other talents.”
That indeed, I do.
As I stood over my little pot over the gas burner, I put a little of this and a little of that. Tasted it. Added a little more of that.
Presto! Before long, I had my very own hot chocolate recipe. And here it is, my darlings!
Sharon’s Hot Chocolate

These are the products I used.
Here are the instructions:

How easy is that?
Hot chocolate packets – be gone! I knew I could do better.
