Peter, people, and Love. When I think of Peter Neal (@peterneal1), this title just pops into my mind. It’s the only way I can describe him, even though we have never met in person.
However, for as long as I can remember, I have been devouring his tortilla chips and salsa. Recently, I have been savouring his amazing coffee called Crank Coffee (@crankcoffee_) that just had its debut. Trust me, it’s excellent. I should know because I am an official coffee snob!
Just recently, Peter has shared his wise words in the book Get Up. He is one of our “mentors” who answered the question “What would you say to your teenage self?”
And it’s a goodie!
From what Peter has shared with me, and from what I have snooped around online, Peter Neal loves to be with people and really connect with them. He is also grateful and appreciative for his friends and family that have gotten him through one of life’s biggest challenges.
So it just makes sense for me to title this blog Peter, People, and Love, because that is what Peter Neal is all about.
Want to know more? I don’t blame you! Check out our cool conversation below where Peter dishes out all the scoop, plus he digs deeper into his quote from Get Up.
Who is Peter Neal?
Peter Neal is a happily married man of 28 years and a dad to 3 great girls! I have been an entrepreneur my whole life and my main business is rooted in food. I love to travel, ski, and explore the tasty world of food and wine. I’m most happy when cooking and enjoying time at home or our cottage with family and friends. I am a social animal; I love meeting new people, connecting people, and mentoring aspiring new food business dreamers!
What is Neal Brothers Foods and how did it all begin?
Neal Brothers Foods (@nealbrothers) is a brand of natural food products with “healthier snacks” at the core. We are also a distribution company focusing on natural/organic food brands in Canada. I started Neal Brothers in 1988 with my brother – our first product was homemade, gourmet croutons made in our mom’s kitchen in Aurora, Ontario.
Can you share a meaningful lesson you learned in your business?
I learned to get great advice and never, ever give up!
What are is your Favourite…
Foods: My faves are; Indian, Thai, and Mexican.
Movie: The Wizard of Oz because I love the journey they all take to the eventual self-realization that no matter where we run to, physically or mentally, we won’t find contentment until we are happy with who we are. And I love the music!
Book: Setting the Table by Danny Meyer. It is a holistic approach to business; work hard, surround yourself with great people, do unto others and success will follow!
Way to unwind: Cooking, skiing, fishing, or getting out on the water in a kayak, paddleboard, or fishing boat!
What other jobs have you had in the past?
My first job was delivering The Toronto Star newspapers at the age of 13. I also babysat, mowed lawns, was a security guard, delivered pizzas, cleaned bathrooms, worked at Canada’s Wonderland, worked the graveyard shift at a plastic mold injection plant, and also sold merchant credit cards POS systems for Canada Trust! (aren’t ya glad you asked?!)
Let’s unpack your quote:
“You are a super-connector and that is your superpower because connections are powerful, they build love, community, and those are building blocks for resiliency.”
I know or have met a lot of people – it is one of my favourite things in life. I have been really good at connecting people for work, friendships, mentoring, and even love! And yes, connecting people helps build a community and those connections can help us feel loved and connected, and when we need support or help, it is there!
What are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of my family – they are all amazing people and I am equally grateful for them.
It’s all about the people and the love you surround yourself with. Thank you, Peter, for your advice in Get Up and for sharing what it really means to be grateful and appreciative.
