How to be nice to yourself

In a time like this, how are you supposed to be nice to yourself? There is so much to do! How are you supposed to get anything done and will someone turn off that negative voice that’s screaming in your head?

Oh my.

There is no doubt that we are in the middle of a storm. This pandemic life is getting harder by the minute and everyone is struggling, which makes everything more difficult.

  • Work is hard. How many Zoom meetings are left?
  • School is harder. Staring at a screen all day without hanging out with friends? Really?
  • Relationships! You love your family, but ALL THE TIME?

Self Talk – Trash the Negativity. Please!

You’ve heard this one before, but it’s true.

Do you know that negative inner voice that you keep hearing? I bet that most of the time, it’s not the most pleasant nor patient. You could almost call it rude. Would you talk like that to one of your friends? A parent? Your child? You wouldn’t dare, would you?

Why are you saying it to yourself? Which by the way, does absolutely nothing for you except make you feel angrier and more disappointed.

Pay close attention to what you are saying to yourself and if it’s anything that makes your head drop down a few notches, shut that down. Now. Or, you just have that voice give me a call and I will tell it where to go. I’m serious.

It’s time for some positive self talk. Something like this.

This is how to be nice to yourself. Write this one down! Anywhere that you can see it. In your phone. On a piece of paper and stick it on your shirt.

Normally, I would never say this expression, but in this case, it’s a must. Your attitude is all in your head. You are in charge of your thoughts. You are flying your airplane and it’s up to you where you want to go and how you want to get there. Yes, there are obstacles in the way. Our lives right now are not fair and it’s hard for everyone. My advice? Work with what you have. Look for the silver linings. Take the time to celebrate – even the little things. It will make such a difference.

Of course, like any obstacle in life, if you are having a hard time navigating this process on your own, you can call one of these wonderful ladies.

That List.

Everyone has “that” list. Since March of 2020, you probably had a list of things that you wanted to get done, see, and do. Since “this” all happened, chances are, that list – or even that very special list – you know the one that reads how you envisioned your life to be like in five years? For many of us, this list has been ripped to shreds.

Let’s take a look at the most crucial things to focus on right now and these things only.

  • To make sure you have a roof over your head.
  • Food in the fridge.
  • You and your loved ones are healthy. (Mentally, too)

Some can tackle more, some less. Contrary to popular beliefs, we are not in the same boat, but we are in some type of “boat” that range from rubber rafts to yachts. The size and condition of your “boat” and the mental health of you managing your boat play a huge role in how you are facing life these days. I’m getting up on my soap box to yell YOU DO YOU.

We need to do what feels right for ourselves and if the bare necessities are all we can handle right now, so be it. If you are able to do more, so be it, too.

How to be nice to yourself? Let’s make it a priority to take care of yourself and your relationships. Once we have that taken care of, the rest of your plate will seem a lot less heavy which will help a few items on your “list” to get done.
