Get amazing relief from the chiropractor when you cry “Yeeoow…OMG… The pain!”
These cries of pain have been shared by me and my family members when it’s joint or muscle-related, due to a fall, a sports injury, or even stress.
But before I pop a pill, I like to try other ways to stop the pain. The Sukha Sac and Reflexology are my go-to remedies, but when the pain gets too intense, I get amazing relief from the chiropractor. Especially when a little acupuncture is added to the mix. But first, let’s tackle a few questions that you may be asking yourself.
What is a chiropractor?
Someone who went to chiropractic school for four years, on top of an undergraduate degree to study all about the body and its functions. Very similar to medical school. When you are experiencing pain in your joints or muscles, chiropractors feel that your spine is not aligned. The result? Hello, piercing pain in your lower back, hip joint, or any other area. Once, the chiropractor alines your spine, through manipulation, your body is able to heal itself without surgery or medication.
Before any treatment is prescribed, a complete medical history and physical examination are performed.
What does a treatment plan look like? Several manual adjustments along with some exercises for you to do at home. Thank you, @webmd for this information.
Is Chiropractic manipulation dangerous?
According to the @mayoclinic chiropractic adjustments are safe, if performed on a trained and licensed chiropractor. You shouldn’t be treated by a chiropractor if you have:
- Severe osteoporosis
- Cancer in your spine
- An increased risk of stroke
- A known bone abnormality in the upper neck
The risk of stroke is also a popular concern. According to @thewashingtonpost, “A 2008 Canadian study that found that of those who had strokes following neck manipulation, most had already been having symptoms suggestive of a stroke.”
As for me, I tend to get pain in my upper back, right above my shoulder blade. When this happens, I see Dr. Alan Pintaric from HealthSolutionsToronto.com where he has been practicing for the past 18 years. He has a whole lot to say about how you can get amazing relief from your chiropractor.
Why should someone see a chiropractor?
One of the main reasons people visit my office is because they are in pain; however, there are many other purposes that a chiropractor can help.
- Improve posture, joint function, and mobility.
- To slow down degenerative conditions such as arthritis.
- Enhance the nervous and organ system function.
- Decreases stress.
- Helps with prenatal pain.
- Strengthens the immune system.
Why introduce Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient practice where tiny little needles are placed in the area where you are in pain. It helps to relieve muscle tightness and spasms, decreases stress, and helps the patient relax before their treatment. It can also help with organ function, digestive function, resolve pain, and improve sleep.
Editor’s note: They are so thin and tiny, you can hardly feel them – and let me tell you – they bring HUGE relief!
How many sessions does it take to see improvement, VS if you left the pain alone?
Seeing improvement depends on a person’s age and condition. The more serious the condition the longer the treatment may be. On average to see any physiological changes it would take 16-24 treatments (An example to help posture). This is a person-specific treatment plan that needs to be followed. Leaving it alone increases the chances of reoccurrence and it never being corrected. For acute pain, it can take just 3 or 4 treatments.
Why did you decide to become a chiropractor?
The main reason why I became a chiropractor is that the chiropractic philosophy does not use drugs to help heal. I suffered many sports injuries when I was younger and I was always treated by a chiropractor. Surgery for my back was not needed because of my chiropractic treatments. Helping my patients get better and seeing them get back to their preinjury condition is such a rewarding feeling.
Chiropractic care may not be the first choice to take care of pain when there is a bottle of Ibuprofen in your medicine cabinet. Prescribed and over-the-counter medication can help the pain, for a little while, but if you want to help the underlining issue to where the pain is coming from, consider visiting your chiropractor, where you can prevent and treat your whole body. So you can continue to do things like this.
