Want to read the best and bravest book? I have read many memoirs, but not one like this. This book was devoured in one day and it felt like I read it in 10 minutes. It was super emotionally scary, and although I wanted to get off this crazy rollercoaster ride, something kept me there and holding on. For good reasons. The Good Stripper by @MarciWarhaft is an honest, brave, and exhilarating read that is filled with lessons.
Recommending books for middle school children is a part of what @BravetheWaves_ is all about. You can learn so much from characters and storylines, especially if it’s a great story. Even though I learned heap loads from the great story that Warhaft wrote, I have to say that this memoir is definitely not on my list for kids in grades 6 to 8. However, parenting is different in all households. Parents and caregivers – you be the judge. Just read it first. Then, like all of my other book recommendations – talk about it afterward. That’s the best part of reading.
It’s Honest
I have known Marci since we were in our teens. I even wrote about her amazing program, @Fit_VS_Fiction here. We kept in touch throughout the years and I was beyond honoured and even flattered that she reached out to me to proof-read her book, while it was still in a Word document. I even had the opportunity to give a short review, which is on the back cover.
Call me old fashioned, but I don’t like to read on a screen. I will if I have to, but I much prefer good old fashioned paper. Nevertheless, I took to my laptop and began to read. And I kept reading. I didn’t stop. I couldn’t stop. There were times that I was so mesmerized that I forgot that I was reading on a laptop. Marci invited me into her world and off we went!
I won’t tell you what she experienced, but I can tell you this. Her writing style is incredibly honest and raw. There was no sugar coating to her story. I felt as if I was standing right beside her the whole time while she was going through all of it. Yes, I am nodding. The best and bravest book, for sure.
It’s Brave
It’s one thing to go through what Marci experienced, but it’s another to tell the world about it. She could have used a “Nom De Plume“, described fewer details, or even changed the main occupation she chose to explore to something else while using the same feelings of remorse, shame, guilt, and/or fulfillment. Marci didn’t. She chose to speak the truth even though it was extremely painful at times. And she did so unapologetically. Wow.
The Lessons!
Throughout the ups, downs, losses, and more losses. Shame, pain, guilt, lies and, geez, what didn’t Marci experience?
She survived.
I learned that sometimes the choices we make are for a reason, even though great pain can result from it. No matter what road you take, there is still time to turn around and start again. To get help. To change the people you spend your time with.
As for the losses? They hurt. And the pain never goes away. But you can celebrate their spirit, especially the way Marci does.
Marci Warhaft is the true meaning of a survivor. I honestly don’t know anyone who has experienced what she has and is alive to tell it all through the best and bravest book, The Good Stripper. Pick your copy up today. Do it now. Here.
