As you scroll through your feed, on any social media platform, and come across an image. You stop. Look. Admire, and say to yourself “Your life looks so perfect!”
It’s not. I can guarantee it. Let me explain why.
Let’s say a girl, let’s call her Marcia, is sitting outside on a beautiful day. Lying on a chaise lounge by a pool or ocean. Can you picture the scene?
Everyone, at some point in their life, has posted a picture of themselves facing a body of water, with their legs stretched out.
Even I did this, in my last post on Instagram a few days ago here. Not one of my typical posts, I admit, but take a look at the view! #Calm #Grattitude.
Getting back to the story of Marcia, let’s use the featured photo that I posted today to prove my point. What do you see? Besides a pair of legs stretched out in front of a pool, what is really going on?
Let’s start with this lovely laundry list. Marcia’s parent just found out about a pile of clothes that have been sitting for weeks at the foot of her bed.
You should have heard the screaming match that followed! Tips on how to handle this type of behavior? Read about it here.
A sibling just “lost” Marcia’s favourite jeans that she got at a thrift store, that she spent TWO WHOLE HOURS looking for the PERFECT PAIR. That one really stung, right?
Suddenly, Marcia realizes that she has a math test on Monday. it’s Sunday at 6:00 PM and she has no clue where to begin. There. That’s a lot. And all Marcia posted was a picture of her sitting by a pool.
It may look very relaxing, decadent, and perfect, but YOU HAVE NO IDEA what Marcia is going through at the time of the posting. And you never will. Why? Because it’s none of our business.
All Marcia wants to show you is that her life is PERFECT. It’s up to you if you want to believe it or not. Bottom line: Don’t believe that all you see on social media is the truth. There is so much more info behind the picture.
To prove a point, @JenniferAniston shared this with the world just a few months ago while she was getting ready for a photoshoot.
I’m just a girl….standing with hair and makeup. A stylist. A photographer. A lighting crew, wind machine, props, and a computer …. asking you to think I woke up like this.
See what I mean?
Thank you, @jenniferanniston for allowing me to borrow your perfect image.
