We are eating so much at home these days, the need for the best snack ever is a high priority. But, it has to be tasty, satisfying, filling, and easy to prepare, right? Have I got the recipe for you! But before I reveal the recipe, I’ve got good news and bad news. Here’s the good news:
- It’s ridiculously easy to make.
- It’s inexpensive.
- You just need three ingredients.
- This snack is so good for you. (Helps regulate blood sugar and is loaded with fiber!)
Here’s more good news – and we can all use as much as we can these days! Let’s talk about the main ingredient.
The Apple
There is no better snack to calm those growling noises in between meals than an apple. The water content and fiber will fill you up until your next meal, plus, apples are portable and have a long shelf life. However, due to our lives right now, we aren’t exactly going anywhere, so portable snacks aren’t the issue, but experimentation within the culinary arts is! Let’s all have some fun in the kitchen! Okay, okay – dying to know what it is? Drum roll, please….!
Apple Chips!
Sounds decadent, and it definitely is. Slaving over a hot stove, my darlings you won’t be. Your oven will be doing all of the work which brings me to the…
Bad news: You need to stand by and or hang around your oven for -gulp- two hours. That is the amount of time you need to make the apples as crispy as potato chips. Trust me, it’s worth it. Once you taste them, you won’t be needing those bags of potato chips ever again. Then again, there’s always these amazing kale chips.
What to do in those two hours?
Read a Book (I know a good one! )
Watch a flick on Netflix. One of my favourites is @strangerthingstv. I wrote about it here.
Time to stop rambling! At long last, here is the recipe:
Apple Chips by Shauna Lindzom R.D.
Thank you, @shaunalin for this super easy apple chip recipe that takes 3 minutes to prepare, and about two hours to bake.
You might be wondering, what happens when these beautiful fruits go in the oven? When you dehydrate apples, just the water evaporates and what is left is all the good stuff: the fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Here’s what you need:
A bunch of apples (can be any kind. I like Honey Crisp)
Sugar & cinnamon for sprinkling.
With a mandoline slicer (I like this one) slice the apples on 2 parchment paper-lined cookie sheets. Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on all of the slices and bake at 200F (convection is best) for about two hours. Pour them into a bowl and enjoy!
