Exercise: Where to begin? Everyone is oozing with the newest moves, techniques, and methods, everywhere you turn. No doubt about it. This is information overload on exercise that can make anyone’s head spin. It can even make you run in the opposite direction. However, you’ve heard this before and I have to say it again. You need to exercise. The benefits are endless. As for my 2¢, the only way to start is to begin.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. – Lao Tzu
Here at @BraveTheWaves_, we are all about taking care of ourselves. Most of what we preach is about eating well, exercising, and choosing the right people to spend our time with. Every age should practice this, not just our middle school audience.
As for the topic of exercise, I’ve written all about it, taken all sorts of classes and you all have seen me in my trademark pink running shoes zipping around my neighborhood. Isn’t it so cool how my sneakers match my logo? Well, kinda.
Sorry, got sidetracked by the shoes! Getting back to the subject at hand. Exercise: Where to begin.
What about those who need a little help getting started? I know you’re out there. You want to exercise but don’t know where to begin. Where to go. Especially now since all the gyms are closed.
Now’s my chance to introduce you to a whole new world.
A ritual that will make you feel alive, powerful, and much calmer than you could ever imagine. It will be the highlight of your day to take care of the most important person in the world. YOU.
So, let’s begin. Here are 5 fabulous exercise apps, programs, and classes that are beginner-friendly and so much fun, too! Some are free and some have a fee.
Couch to 5K
1. @_couchto5k. This free app will get you off the couch to running 5 KM in 9 weeks. The program uses interval training that consists of three workouts that last about 30 minutes each. Most have found great success while others find it too difficult due to the lack of strength exercises to prevent injury for those who require more training.
None to Run
2. @nonetorun. Never ran a day in your life. Ever? This free app is for you! It will take you from “Ground Zero” to running comfortably in 12 weeks. This plan is for real beginners.
Absfitness.ca
3. @Absfitnness.ca @AlisonBederSolway is an instructor from @rocket.cycle and she goes live, from her living room on Instagram every Wednesday morning at 9:00 AM sharp. In less than an hour, she will work every muscle in your body, gently and thoroughly with exceptional instruction and motivation. For a Membership fee, you can have access to her whole library of exercise videos that you can play anytime.
Akira Concept
4. @TheAkiraConcept @DavidNewtonWellness will teach you how to properly stand, lift, run, walk, and breathe to prevent your body from breakdown. You will also learn how to obtain the maximum benefits you can receive from your workouts. Fee for service.
Lady The F Up
5. @ladythefup You read this right. Since this is a PG-rated website, where middle schoolers are welcome, I will refrain from explaining what the F stands for, but I suppose you can all guess. This business provides online fitness coaching with incredible support and tough love. Motivating women to be their best version of themselves, both physically and mentally. Members have access to a coach that will not only create a personalized exercise program but will also help with nutrition too. There is also a Facebook group page with some pretty inspirational messages and photos. This company has a “brother” called, you guessed it, Man the F up @manthefup with the same M.O, but for men.
Do you have an exercise app or program that you love? I’d love to hear from you. Please tell me all about it and maybe I’ll try it for myself! Send me the scoop at sharon@bravethewavesprogram.com
I’m so grateful to be able to have the opportunity to write what I’m passionate about and what I think will serve others. If you would like me to write about you and your passions for the Braves The Waves Journal, or for your own company, please be in touch.
