You’ve got to try my powerful protein-packed oatmeal. It’s seriously yummy and will keep you full for hours. Best of all, you can dress it up any way you like.
Here at @bravethewaves_, if you haven’t already noticed, our blogs are about friend stuff, school stuff, exercise stuff, and yummy stuff.
I have to say that sharing the “yummy stuff ” is definitely one of my favourite topics to write about because well, I love food! Yummy food! Who doesn’t? And while we’re all inside these days, spending a lot of time in our kitchen cooking and baking. It better be yummy!
And of course, it has to be good for you, too! ‘Cause you know, I’m a parent and all and that’s what parents do. To make sure what you eat is healthy. And tastes great, of course.
So for today’s blog, I am so excited to share what I (and most of my family) have been eating every morning because it’s so damn good and keeps getting better every time I make it.
Powerful Protein-Packed Oatmeal
- 1/2 cup oatmeal flakes
- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 cup egg whites
- 1 TBS nut butter of choice
- A dash or two of cinnamon
- A drizzle of honey or agave (optional)
Directions
Cook oatmeal as per the directions on the package. When it is just about cooked, add in the egg whites and stir. Cook for about 2 minutes. The consistency will be a “fluffed up” version of your regular oatmeal. Pour into a bowl. Add as much cinnamon as you like, the nut butter, perhaps some honey, agave, hemp hearts, chia seeds, banana, and or cinnamon. The list is endless!
This oatmeal recipe has been taken up a notch from the traditional just add hot water and some honey routine. That’s why I have renamed it powerful protein-packed oatmeal. This version is loaded with complex carbohydrates, protein, fiber, and healthy fat that will keep you satisfied for hours.
I know you might be thinking “Why would I put egg whites in my oatmeal? Yuck!” When I first saw this recipe, I thought that too, and guess what? You don’t taste any egg. At all. What you do taste is a toasty, nutty, and “cinnamony” flavour. You can replace that “Yuck” with a “Yummy” pronto!
Thank you, Jess!
This recipe has been graciously borrowed from an old camp friend who I follow on social media. @jessibifit who is a bodybuilder. She shared this recipe years ago and it has been my go-to breakfast for years. Thank you, Jess! <3
Jessica has a bucketload of nutritious and yup, you guessed it – yummy foods on her Instagram Page. Go check her out. You don’t have to be a bodybuilder to enjoy her recipes.
I love my powerful protein-packed oatmeal with a cup of coffee and cream. My daughter loves a bowl with fresh strawberries and a cup of tea. Try the recipe and add something you like. It can be anything. Snap a picture of it and send it to me and I will post it on the Instagram page.
Yum.
