What if you don’t want to stay at home?

You have to stay home, but what if you don’t want to stay at home? It’s literally not fair. You just want to see your friends. Like now. You want a sleepover so bad you could scream. You have so much work to do but don’t know how to get started. Plus, you haven’t gotten your sweat on in weeks! How are you going to exercise? All this self-isolation is driving your crazy. Who’s idea is this anyway?

Staying home is tough. We hear you and completely understand your frustration. As parents, we want you to experience so many great things that extend beyond the doors of your home.

We will tell you why.

We need to #Flattenthecurve. To stop the #COVID-19 from spreading. The more people stay home and keep to themselves, the quicker we will be able to go out and return to normal.

In order to get a handle on this, we’ve got some super cool ideas on how to get through this.

First things first!

Make a daily schedule.

Write it down! Get one of those whiteboards and cool white board markers from @officedepot and get to it. Once you write everything down, it will most likely happen. Plus, by seeing it in your room each day, lookin’ so awesome and organized, it will provide a sense of routine, which kids (and adults too!) thrive on.

Check out this one here:

Get Outside!

It’s almost April and the weather isn’t “spring-like” yet. Don’t let that steer you back into the house. Get out the right outdoor gear to keep you warm. Grab your family members and walk outside for at least 30 minutes each day. Get your heart pumping and take it up a notch by speed walking. Here’s how to do it:

Watch your stress levels decrease and you will suddenly feel much calmer. Plus, everyone needs Vitamin D and you will a healthy dose by being in the outdoors.

Pick up a new skill, or improve on something you love doing.

No doubt about it – you will have some extra time on your hands. Now is your chance to learn how to knit, learn a new language or learn a new dance on @tiktok. If you love to cook, challenge yourself to a more difficult recipe.

Reach out to your friends!

After all the work is done and you had a chance to get outside, pick up your phone and reach out to your buddies. Connecting with your peeps is 100% needed for your mental health. You need support from your family, but also from kids your age who are going through the same frustrations you are. Heck, have a virtual tea-party! With fancy cups and everything. #YOLO

We know it’s hard, but we also know with a little planning you can do this. Want more ideas? Want to share some of yours? Let us know – just send an email to sharon@bravethewavesprogram.com. We’d love to hear from you!
