As Run D.M.C @Run-DMC wrote many years ago, it’s time to Walk This Way – and personally, I like to add a few extra words – with a friend!
The last few days of summer are upon us and, if you take a look at your calendar, you will notice that something major is happening in a few weeks. It begins with an S and chances are, if you have kids, they likely go to this place. Like every day.
Yes, I’m talking about school.
Attending school can add a bit of stress to the daily grind. Just a tad. And I’m not just talking about the kids here.
Walking can help you and your child:
Reflect. Decompose, and Breathe.
No doubt about it. Walking is fantastic exercise.
According to @uoft, walking can help stave off depression, you be more alert and will be genuinely happy. In addition, you will increase your level of independent decision-making and foster personal growth.
This way of thinking can have a domino effect on any task you sought to conquer. Like going to school each day.
Don’t ignore it.
Please don’t ignore the stress and anxiety that the first day of school brings. Acknowledge it. Embrace it. And get outside for a walk. Put some music on. Move your body and breathe.
Before you know it, you will feel more relaxed, calmer, and in control.
Being in control and in charge of your journey, wherever it may be, can lead to building confidence.
And we love how confidence makes you feel.
But there’s one more thing that you can do:
Bring a friend
Grab your buddy and go for a walk with them! Here’s your chance to reap all the benefits that walking brings you, PLUS now that you have your pal in tow, you will get a chance to vent everything that’s on your mind!
No doubt there should be a lot!
By doing this, I guarantee that you will feel a huge weight lifted from your shoulders and chest. The knots in your stomach will feel a little looser, not to mention the solid and really smart advice (because you have that type of friend, right?) that you will get from your friend after you finish dumping every ounce of anguish that you may be feeling.
And then there’s your friend’s turn.
This is when it will be your turn to tilt your head towards the flow of information you will be receiving from your walking buddy, for you to listen to.
Once they get a chance to share what’s on their mind, you will notice how their body will loosen and relax, just like yours.
When you feel stressed, it’s best to get walking. And when you bring a friend, whom you can trust to the mix, it’s even better.
I graduated from school years ago, and I still walk with a friend every chance I get.
And it feels fantastic.
