It’s too much. Help!

Once you get to middle school, you may be saying to yourself It’s too much. Help! Life gets so much busier. There are some kids who thrive on being busy and it works for them. They have loads of energy and enjoy the fast pace that their schedule brings them.

Even if you have loads of energy, you may be that type of kid who needs more downtime in between after school commitments and all that homework and there is no shame in that at all.

And then there are days where it just gets too overwhelming. You know those days when you look at your plate and don’t know where or when to even begin?

What to do?

Put your “Plate” down.

Breathe.

Take a look at your priorities and see what you need to do now, what can be done tomorrow and what you can live without. For now. Feel free to reach out to a parent or friend to help you sort out your priorities. The second set of eyes can really help!

Then make a plan. Everyone works differently. Even adults, too! After you decide what is needed to do, write it all down on a calendar and have a look. There is a really nifty student organizer from Order out of Chaos and this one from Pasion Planner. If necessary, adjust accordingly again. Nobody said that the first change in your schedule will be the last. Feel good? Move forward! Still feel suffocated? Take something out.

One last piece of advice – middle school is the time to try new things, so give yourself a break. When opportunity knocks on your door. Answer it and have some fun! Don’t miss your chance to participate in new activities and of course, meet new people.
