Sweat Sesh = Better Grades!
It’s January, and if you live where we do (Canada), there is snow everywhere, along with the wind and the cold, which means that you are spending the majority of your time indoors, studying or streaming.
Books all the time may be good for your brain, but if you don’t take a break, it’s not good for your body. Don’t get us started on the screen time. You need to take a break from that, too. Yes, you do.
Make time to get up and move. According to the University of British Columbia, aerobic exercise can help improve your memory and thinking skills. So it’s true: Sweat Sesh = Better Grades! Whenever you get your heart pumping enough for your T-shirt to spot sweat stains, the size of the hippocampus (the area in your brain in charge of verbal memory and thinking) gets larger. Fascinating! We dare you to try it!
We have some ideas to try:
A) Go for a 20-minute speed walk. Snow on the ground should not derail you either. Put on your boots, you know the ones that go up to your knees, along with a cozy hat, a scarf and mittens too. Choose a coat that you can walk freely in, perhaps one that has a pocket for your smartphone to play some tunes and voila! You are ready to venture outside! Walk around your block a few times. Maybe 3 or 4 songs worth. And don’t be alarmed if your legs begin to itch. The cold triggers the release of histamine and other chemicals in the bloodstream which means that the nerves in your legs are just waking up.
B) Take a dance class. Google what’s around your neighbourhood and see what strikes your fancy. You may awaken an old childhood activity that you used to love. Another option is to choose a secluded spot in your house, put on a dance mix, place in your earbuds and boogie your butt off like nobody’s watchin’. Don’t forget to bring a water bottle and a towel too. Before you know it, you’ll need both.
C) Then apply to Harvard. “What? Like it’s hard?” said Elle Woods from the movie Legally Blonde. We’re kidding! Or maybe not. But seriously, try options A & B then study for a test and see what happens!
Study like mad, but don’t forget to get up and move. Sweat Sesh = Better Grades!
Thank you @seen_running for the cool picture. Perhaps you should wear a hat? And gloves?
