I have decided, for this stage in my life, this is the best book. Ever. It’s called is Untangled by Lisa Damour Ph.D. @lisa.damour. If you have a daughter, get it now.
“It’s a Girl!”
Remember when the doctor or midwife exclaimed as your baby was released from your body into the world. You probably had every baby book ever printed either already read or were about to read in between feedings. As you cradled your daughter in your arms, dreamy visions of lunch dates, sharing secrets and having that special mother-daughter bond was sure to be on your future schedule of life with your “mini-me.”
Things may turn out just that way – or maybe not what you expected.
Especially when she hit middle school.
After the baby and toddler books, the number one book to have on your bookshelf – ready to read the moment your daughter hits middle school (or even before) is the best book for the job. Untangled.
The Teenage Daughter
Raising a teenage daughter is HARD. Knowing what to do is HARD. Make this situation EASY by keeping this book by your bedside because IT HAS ALL OF THE ANSWERS! (Maybe not all, but this reader was genuinely satisfied)
Reading Untangled was a pleasure to read because Dr. Lisa Damour shares real-life stories of the teens and parents she counsels in her private practice in Ohio. Damour does not preach or use complicated psychological language but illustrates quite clearly how to talk to teenage girls and how to set limits while still allowing them to make mistakes and grow from the experience.
“What is she reading on that phone?” “Should I take it away?” “Why is she going beserk because her favourite jeans are in the wash – I mean BESERK?” “Everything was so much easier when she was little…”
@yourteenmag calls it “The New Bible of Parenting Books.”
Thank you, @nicolariestaggart and @daniellexdesign for your perfect images.
Her new book Under pressure also has a spot on my bedside, too. www.drlisadamour.com
